  • Ingredients: Organically grown roasted green tea twigs, stems and leaves.

    Product weight: 90g

Clearspring Organic Kukicha is made from the carefully selected twigs and stems of Japanese tea bushes. They are steamed, rolled and dried before slowly aged to develop their mild and soothing flavour. Roasting the tea reduces its caffeine content and gives it a delicately nutty aroma, which makes our Kukicha perfect for any time of the day and suitable for the whole family.

  • Third Generation Tea Family from Kyoto, Japan

In the hills around Kyoto, the third generation of the Nagata family use special organic methods, known as Nature Farming, to produce a range of exquisite green teas for Clearspring.

The ancient farming approach used by the Nagatas builds up soil vitality by maintaining a semi-wild environment, where the plants are not overly protected and gain nourishment from repeated applications of compost made from tea clippings and dried leaves, which together with regular mulching helps control weed growth and maintain soil moisture.

Whilst most tea farmers spray their plants with pesticides and herbicides 15-20 times a year, the Nagatas' tea bushes have a vigour that enables them to thrive without chemical inputs.

The Nagatas' yields may be lower than average but their plants have far less mould and blight. They remain productive for up to 40 years, twice as long as the typical tea bush treated with chemicals.

As well as growing tea, the Nagatas undertake the skilful blanching, drying and roasting processes to bring out the unique flavours of each individual blend.

Delicious tea

Good quality twig tea: delicious flavour and aroma and I get several brews from a pots worth of twigs. A shame the packs have shrunk from 125g to 90g but still worth it to me. Same as it has been for ever too. I used to share it with my children when they were growing up (decades ago!) & they loved it as well; so does everyone I share it with.
(Thank you Jane & Sue for introducing me to Clearspring)

My go to cuppa

I love this tea, It is mild, rich, earthy, without that tanniny tang. It helps me digest and doesn’t stop me sleeping. I sometimes mix it with chai spice or rooibos and drink it with or without soy milk. I keep a tea kettle for it so I can reuse the twigs a few times.

Excellent product

Excellent product with beneficial properties. Only problem I find is that it stains my teeth.
