    Why they cannot be called jams

    Jams are required by law to have a minimum overall sugar content, so when fruit juice is used as an ingredient, instead of sugar, the overall sugar content (and the calories) are reduced. Thus the term 'jam' can no longer be used.

Good, but could be much better

I buy several different Clearspring products, preferring to buy organic wherever possible. It is very difficult to find a source of 'marmalade-equivalent' that is made from organically certified ingredients and has no added sugar. I used to buy Meridian orange spread, which 'ticked all the boxes' - and tasted good too. But that's no longer available, sadly. So, a quest for an acceptable alternative began. I had hoped that this Clearspring product would be just as good as the Meridian one, but (sadly) it isn't. The texture is more like a purée, a bit reminiscent of babyfood, really. A do prefer pieces of orange peel in with the spread. Also, the flavour is bland. It needs more 'sharpness' and 'tang' to it. An alternative product which I greatly prefer is Italian-made FruTeto Scicilian orange and mango spread. This is also made from organically-certified ingredients and has no added sugar. Unlike the Clearspring product, it has a more marmalade-like consistency and a much better flavour. Sorry, Clearspring!

Fruit Spreads

I like that these are not runny, also taste seems good.
Larger jars would be good.

The best low sugar “marmalade”

This orange spread has a much fresher and more orangey flavour than other low sugar marmalades I’ve tried. I’ll definitely be buying this again.

Fruity, delicious and naturally sweet. Just tart enough, with right amount of texture. Lovely on toast or oatcakes.
